Self-organizing, self-sustaining, self-governing
Synarchy is how we work together to co-create the world we want to live in—a world that works for all of life—by being fully ourselves
August 26, 2023
A bi-weekly conversation in Zoom, every second Saturday at 8am Pacific Time, inspired by the world building session with Trimtab Space Camp Mesosphere visionary Tony Patrick in 2020. In our conversations, we mused that we were a World Weavers Web, weaving synergetically as a synarchy, rather than in the dominant mode of dominating over nature as architects and builders, and collectively agreed to change the name of the group to World Weavers.
Self-organizing
In the Design Science Studio Weekly Watering Whole this past Wednesday, we were exploring the question, “What does self-organizing mean?”
As we begin the process of reading through applications and forming a third cohort (coheART) of people to realize the vision of a Design Science Decade, we have a lot of questions about how we become the synarchy that we aspire to be.
How do we self-organize?
How can we be self-sustaining?
How might we engage in self-governing?
First, we enlarge our sense of self. If we enlarge our sense of self to the scale of a planet, this changes the way we answer these questions. If we enlarge our sense of self to the scale of the universe, we are transformed.
What Questions to Ask
To teach students resiliency in the unknown world ahead we must teach regeneratively—learning how to write a new question and make new connections each time we analyze data in the context of humanity, inclusivity, and within systems.
The climate is changing. We must change as well. To know how to change, we need to know what questions to ask and how we build together. I do not want a chatbot doing this for the future—but rather designers, scientists, educators, planners, organizers, and engineers who work together, as humans, across platforms, tools and systems.

Diverse Voice and Talents
At the Design Science Studio, we believe in the power of diverse voices and talents coming together to nourish a better world.
Artists paint the world with vibrant imagination and challenge the status quo through visual expressions.
Designers co-create solutions with intention that harmonize form and function, bridging the gap between beauty and regeneration.
Ecologists decode the intricate web of nature’s delicate balance so we can live in harmony.
Climate designers cultivate designs that speak a language of nature, process, and sustainability for a resilient future.
Architects ontologically shape the physical and social environment in which we live, work, and play.
Scientists uncover the wonders of the natural world and apply that knowledge to find holistic solutions.
Performers let artistry break barriers and ignite a collective spirit of transformation.
Musicians harmonize melodies and lyrics to create soul-stirring compositions and inspire meaningful change.
Philosophers explore new paradigms and use critical thinking to improve collective sense-making towards a more considerate future.
Poets weave lyrical tapestries that illuminate pathways towards a future imbued with transformative possibilities.
Filmmakers craft captivating stories that shift perspective, ignite empathy, provoke thought, and inspire action.
Producers bring creative projects to life, orchestrating every element to create impactful experiences.
Creative coders harness the power of technology and coding to create immersive experiences that merge art and innovation.
Systems thinkers connect the dots and uncover the hidden patterns underlying complex problems to design regenerative systems that benefit all.
Activists give a voice for the voiceless, advocating for social justice and environmental preservation.
Thought leaders share insights, inspire discourse, and are at the forefront of shaping a new narrative for our world.
Join us at the Design Science Studio, where all these disciplines and more converge to co-create a thriving future for all of life.Applications open now through October 1, 2023.

A Bi-Weekly Zoom Meeting
Join us in our World Weavers conversations as we explore the inward journey into who we are as human beings and sensing, feeling, thinking, and acting carefully as we consider the world that we are weaving together for the generations to come.
We are experimenting with Substack as an alternative to the Google Group as a way to stay connected in between World Weavers meetings. Add your email to the mailing list for the World Weavers by subscribing to Trimtab.
